Chelsea Complete Marco Palestra Transfer as Xabi Alonso’s First Signing

Chelsea have confirmed the acquisition of Italy international Marco Palestra from Serie A side Atalanta on a six-year deal running until 2032. He becomes manager Xabi Alonso’s inaugural signing at Stamford Bridge. The 21-year-old right-back spent last season on loan at Cagliari, registering one goal and four assists in 37 league appearances. Chelsea moved swiftly to outpace Inter Milan in securing his services. Palestra expressed his excitement about joining the Blues and adapting to Alonso’s style. He praised the squad’s quality and said he can’t wait to face Premier League challenges and meet the fans. The deal is reported to be worth an initial €57 million plus up to €3 million in performance bonuses, with Atalanta retaining a 10% sell-on clause for any future transfer.

How do you think Marco Palestra will fit into Xabi Alonso's new system at Stamford Bridge, especially as a rookie right-back from Serie A?

True talk, this lad's Serie A grit will spice up Alonso's tactics. Can't wait to see him fly down that flank!

Moving from Atalanta to Chelsea is a huge change, and Palestra hasn't faced Premier League pressure before – that step up might prove challenging.

I'm not convinced that signing an unproven young right-back guarantees a stronger defense; experience often matters more in tight Premier League battles.

Chelsea could integrate Palestra gradually by giving him minutes in domestic cup fixtures before testing him in crucial Premier League matches.
