Chelsea Legend Bobby Tambling Dies Aged 84
Chelsea’s all-time second-highest goalscorer, Bobby Tambling, has passed away at the age of 84 after a long illness. He scored 202 goals in all competitions for the Blues and still holds the club record for league strikes with 164. Tambling made his debut as a 17-year-old in 1959 and remained Chelsea’s top marksman for 47 years until Frank Lampard broke his record in 2013. After leaving Stamford Bridge in 1969, he went on to play for Crystal Palace and enjoyed a successful spell in Ireland with Cork Celtic, Waterford, Shamrock Rovers, and Cork Alberts. Crosshaven AFC paid tribute to Tambling as “a true Chelsea legend and an even more wonderful human being.” He is survived by his partner, Valerie O’Connell, and his sons, Garry and Glenn. His legacy as one of English football’s finest forwards endures.
