Oliseh Blames Talent Drought for Italy’s World Cup Qualifying Collapse
Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh says Italy’s absence from a third straight World Cup is down to a lack of talent. Italy fell 4-1 on penalties to Bosnia & Herzegovina in the European play-off after playing with 10 men from the second half. The match finished 1-1 after extra time, ending a run of World Cup appearances dating back to 2014. On his social media account, Oliseh called the result “a nightmare” and “a total disaster for the soul of Italian football.” He said the players look broken, lack confidence and have forgotten how to perform at the top level. Having faced Italy himself as a Super Eagles midfielder at the 1994 World Cup, Oliseh says he has never seen an Italian side play so poorly.
