Ex-Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Visits EFCC Lagos Office Amid N1.3tn Probe

Ex-Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Visits EFCC Lagos Office Amid N1.3tn Probe

Ex-Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa arrived at the EFCC’s Lagos office on Monday for questioning in an ongoing investigation into alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion during his tenure. He was first arrested by the anti-graft agency in November 2024 over claims he diverted public funds and used state money to buy properties in Asaba and Abuja. Okowa insists all expenditures were judicious and transparent. Addressing the allegations, he said, “I am not afraid to be investigated,” and accused the EFCC of conducting a media trial. Okowa governed Delta State from 2015 to 2023 under the PDP. He later ran as Atiku Abubakar’s running mate in 2023 and defected to the APC in April 2025 alongside his successor.

What do you think this EFCC visit says about the state of anti-graft investigations in Nigeria right now?

Do you think this EFCC meeting signals a real intensification of probes or more selective targeting?

It's striking that a former governor under investigation would show up voluntarily, given EFCC's history of politically motivated actions.

I'm not convinced this questioning changes much; powerful figures often dodge real accountability despite big headlines like this.
