Cyber Threat Actor Claims Sterling Bank Data Breach Exposing Millions of Records

Cyber Threat Actor Claims Sterling Bank Data Breach Exposing Millions of Records

A hacker known as ByteToBreach says it has breached Sterling Bank Plc’s internal network and published over 9 million records on a dark web forum. The stolen data reportedly covers 900,000 customer accounts, more than 3,000 employee files, and about 3 TB of cloud storage. Leaked information includes passports, photographs, bank statements, logs, and KYC documents. The actor also claims a separate dataset tied to Cardinal Stone, and says the breach was used to target Remita and CRC Credit Bureau. If confirmed, this fall-out could fuel identity theft, financial fraud, and unauthorized access to sensitive records.

Do they need to confirm the scope of exposed records before notifying customers or regulators?

It's suspicious that such a large volume of employee files and customer data was left so vulnerable to a single breach.

I'm not convinced every affected account is actually at risk when three terabytes of cloud storage could include noncritical logs or backups.

Sterling Bank customers should enable transaction alerts, update passwords immediately, and watch statements closely for any unexpected activity.
