Ondo Labourer Charged for Destroying ₦500,000 Worth of Palm and Plantain Crops
A 45-year-old labourer, Kunle Igbayemi, appeared before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Okitipupa, Ondo State. He denied two counts of conspiracy and destruction of young palm trees and plantain crops valued at ₦500,000. Prosecution stated the incident occurred on 17 February at about 11:30 a.m. on a farm along the Ayeka–Irele road. Igbayemi is accused of unlawfully entering farmland owned by Mr Felix Ayenuro and damaging the crops alongside an accomplice still at large. He was later arrested by the police. The allegations breach Sections 451 and 517 of the Ondo State Criminal Law (2006). Chief Magistrate Mayowa Olanipekun granted bail of ₦100,000 with a surety of the same amount. The surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and provide two years’ proof of tax payment. The case was adjourned to 28 April for hearing.
