Can an Obi-Kwankwaso Alliance Win Over Northern Nigeria in 2027?
Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are exploring a partnership ahead of the 2027 presidential election. Both men enjoy strong regional followings but have yet to secure truly national appeal. In 2023, Obi captured over six million votes, winning 11 states plus the FCT. His northern victories were limited to Plateau and Nasarawa. Kwankwaso, on the NNPP platform, dominated Kano with nearly one million votes. Political analysts say Kwankwaso’s northern network could bolster Obi’s chances in the North-West. However, they warn that religion, regional identity and long-standing party loyalties still shape voting behaviour. They emphasise that grassroots mobilization, local structures and ethnic balancing will be crucial to turning public excitement into votes.
