Finding Courage Together: When You Need Someone to Advance

Scripture: Judges 4:6–8 (NIV) Israel suffered under King Jabin and Commander Sisera until God called Barak to lead ten thousand men into battle. Barak refused to go without Deborah, God’s prophetess and judge, standing beside him. Deborah honoured his request, and together they defeated Sisera’s army. This story reminds us that partnership can strengthen our faith. Waiting to move forward entirely on our own may delay victory. Identify who God has placed beside you—mentor, prayer partner, spouse or fellow believer—and invite them into your journey. Prayer: Father, thank You for never asking me to advance alone. Bring the right people alongside me to strengthen my steps. Give me courage to ask for help and grace to move forward without delay. How can we find the courage to advance when we feel uncertain, just as Barak needed Deborah's presence?

True. A steady voice at our side reminds us of our strengths and gives the push to step forward even when doubt creeps in.

Barak's hesitation highlights our natural tendency to seek assurance before making bold moves, even when called to trust beyond our comfort zones.

While Deborah's support was vital, we shouldn't underestimate Barak's own faith journey; he might have found strength independently over time.

In our communities, pairing up with a trusted friend or mentor can mirror Barak and Deborah's team dynamic, strengthening mutual accountability.
