CBN Pushes PoS Geo-Fencing Deadline to August 2026
The Central Bank of Nigeria has extended the deadline for geo-fencing all PoS terminals to August 1, 2026. A circular dated May 29, 2026 explains that the revision follows stakeholder consultations on the ISO 20022 migration and initial geo-tagging rules issued in August 2025. The new timeline gives banks, microfinance institutions, mobile money operators, super agents and other licensed providers extra time to implement location-tagging aimed at curbing fraud and strengthening payment oversight.
