Gwarzo Confirmed as NDC’s Kano Governorship Candidate as Gawuna Opts for Senate Seat
The NDC has agreed a consensus ticket in Kano State, clearing the way for Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to run for governor after his rival, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, accepted the party’s offer to contest the Kano Central senatorial seat. Sources say former Deputy Governor Gawuna formally agreed to the deal after internal consultations led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement. Party insiders expect an official announcement of the arrangement any day now. The NDC has grown stronger in Kano since Kwankwaso’s defection, with lawmakers at federal and state levels joining the party. If confirmed, Gwarzo will face Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in what promises to be a fiercely contested 2027 poll. Kwankwaso recently stated that all ticket disputes are settled and that candidates will work together for party unity and electoral success.
