Kano Police Intercept Stolen Pontiac Vibe, Arrest Suspect at Takai

Kano Police Intercept Stolen Pontiac Vibe, Arrest Suspect at Takai

On 12 May, operatives of the Kano State Police Command intercepted a silver Pontiac Vibe reported stolen in Kaduna and arrested its driver at a checkpoint in Takai Local Government Area. The arrest followed a distress call received by the Command and an intelligence-led directive from the Commissioner of Police. Officers from the Takai Division set up a strategic roadblock on the highway and halted the vehicle driven by 38-year-old Christian Ikwumesi of Edo State. Preliminary investigations confirmed the car was stolen in Kaduna. The suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further enquiries into the theft ring. The recovered vehicle has been returned to its rightful owner, who praised the swift action of the Kano Police. The command encouraged residents to continue using its emergency lines to report suspicious movements.

Haha, I agree—those checkpoints make rural roads feel a little safer.

The police statement mentions a distress call and intelligence-led operation, but it's curious how quickly they tracked the stolen Pontiac Vibe.

I'm not convinced a single checkpoint at Takai can deter all car theft rings moving stolen vehicles.

Local drivers should verify vehicle identification details before purchase to avoid unknowingly supporting stolen car networks.
