CJ Reassigns Nafiu-Bala Gombe’s Suit Against Mark, Aregbesola to Justice Peter Lifu
The Federal High Court Chief Judge, Justice John Tshoho, has transferred the leadership dispute suit filed by Nafiu-Bala Gombe to Justice Peter Lifu after Justice Emeka Nwite’s elevation to the Court of Appeal. Gombe seeks to restrain Senator David Mark, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola and the interim National Working Committee from acting as leaders of the African Democratic Congress, arguing this breaches the party constitution and the Electoral Act. Justice Nwite had adjourned the case indefinitely pending the Supreme Court’s judgment, which in late April set aside an appeal court order and directed the FHC to conclude the matter swiftly. On May 8, Gombe’s lawyer requested a judge transfer, a move opposed by counsels for Mark, Aregbesola and Ralph Nwosu as a procedural breach. Justice Nwite then adjourned the suit again pending the certified Supreme Court judgment.
