Two Officers Narrowly Escape Mob Justice in Ogun After Mistaken for Kidnappers
On June 1, the Simawa Division of the Ogun State Police Command responded to reports that two suspected kidnappers had been seized by residents of Kanuyi Community. Officers quickly arrived, rescued the men from an angry crowd and took them into custody for verification. Investigations showed the individuals were police officers from a Mobile Force Squadron in Lagos State. They had lost their way returning from an official post in Sagamu. Their identities were confirmed with valid police IDs, deployment documents and uniforms. A viral video of the incident circulated on social media, but the claims of kidnapping proved false. The officers escaped physical harm but endured emotional distress. The Command praises community vigilance while urging residents to avoid mob actions and let security agencies verify facts before sharing information that could endanger innocent people.
