Historic Union: Ndi’Eze Udo Merges with NDINDU to Strengthen Igbo Leadership in Lagos

Historic Union: Ndi’Eze Udo Merges with NDINDU to Strengthen Igbo Leadership in Lagos

A landmark decision has seen Ndi’Eze Udo chiefs formally join forces with NDINDU, the umbrella leadership platform for the Igbo community in Lagos State. Eze Omeiheoma C. Uche welcomed this move as a step towards ending years of leadership rivalries and identity disputes among Igbo groups. He traced the conflict to a power struggle after some chiefs, originally crowned as Ndi’Eze Udo, began identifying as Ndi Eze’Igbo. According to Eze Uche, these divisions hindered the community’s progress and strained relations with host communities. Under NDINDU, traditional roles are clearly defined—women leaders as Onyendu Nwanyi and youth leaders as Onyendu Ndi Youth—ensuring broader representation. Eze Uche urged all parties to respect one another’s titles and identities and called for lasting peace for the sake of future generations. He emphasized that while Ndi’Eze Udo founders may restructure their body, they cannot dissolve Ndi Eze’Igbo, which belongs to the wider Igbo-speaking community. Eze Uche concluded with a heartfelt plea for unity and reconciliation among all Igbo leadership groups in Lagos.

It's interesting that both groups agreed after years of disagreements, but I wonder if old rivalries might resurface behind the scenes.

This unity sounds more like a political stunt than genuine reconciliation, especially without a detailed plan to settle past leadership disputes.

Both groups should outline clear roles and communication channels now, so they can prevent future clashes and build stronger community bonds.
