Navy Arrests Vessel and 12 Crew Over Alleged Crude Oil Theft in Akwa Ibom
The Nigerian Navy says it has arrested MT FILIA and 12 crew members over the alleged theft of crude oil at the Utue Terminal in Akwa Ibom State. Naval personnel operating under Operation Delta Sentinel reportedly intercepted the vessel after intelligence-led surveillance. The Navy alleged that the crew were siphoning crude oil from an oil terminal jacket. Preliminary findings indicate that the vessel was carrying about 650 metric tonnes of crude oil and 32.82 metric tonnes of fuel oil without the required documentation. The vessel, crew and cargo are in custody pending further investigation and possible prosecution. The Navy said its operation against oil theft recovered more than 4.7 million litres of petroleum products, dismantled 58 illegal refining sites and led to over 91 arrests between April and June.
