Rodri: ‘I Never Imagined I’d Win the Ballon d’Or’
Rodri admitted he always thought the Ballon d’Or was beyond his reach. After an outstanding 2023–24 campaign, he helped Manchester City claim the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup. He also starred as Spain lifted Euro 2024, becoming the first midfielder since Luka Modrić in 2018 to win football’s top individual honour. “I just couldn’t believe I could win,” Rodri said, adding he values the award but doesn’t let personal accolades distract from the team. The 29-year-old praised young teammate Lamine Yamal, tipping him as a future Ballon d’Or contender. Spain will kick off Group H at the tournament against Cape Verde on June 14, before facing Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.
