NYC’s First Muslim Mayor Wears Arsenal Kurta to Eid Prayers
New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani led Eid al-Adha prayers in the Bronx wearing an Arsenal-themed kurta. The long blue-and-black shirt featured red stripes on its sleeves. He is the city’s first Muslim mayor and a lifelong Arsenal fan. In a post on X, he said Eid al-Adha honors Prophet Ibrahim and shows that sacrifice can unite us. He added that solidarity is key to helping New Yorkers afford groceries, housing and childcare. Born and raised in Uganda, Mamdani fell in love with Arsenal at age 10 when his uncle gave him fridge magnets of players like Thierry Henry. This season, the Gunners clinched the Premier League title and now head to the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
