Zambian Vice President Escapes Unhurt After Military Helicopter Crash

Zambian Vice President Escapes Unhurt After Military Helicopter Crash

Zambia’s Vice President Mutale Nalumango and seven others walked away uninjured when their military helicopter crashed moments after take-off in Nakonde District. The 71-year-old was on a campaign tour ahead of the 13 August general election and was en route to address another rally in Isoka when the aircraft went down. All occupants were taken to a nearby medical facility for routine checks and have since been discharged in good health. Zambia’s Ministry of Information confirmed the vice-president, crew and passengers are safe. Initial reports suggest the helicopter may have clipped a tree before crashing, but investigators will examine the wreckage to determine the cause.

It's surprising the military aircraft malfunctioned during a campaign tour; maintenance protocols might not be as rigorous as we think.

I'm not convinced this incident will shift public opinion much; people often shrug off such close calls in politics.
