Army Cracks Down on Militia Hideouts in Benue, Arrests Five Suspects
Troops attached to Sector 1 of Operation Whirl Stroke raided suspected militia camps in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State on the morning of July 17. The clearance operation targeted hideouts along the Otukpo-Nobi, Amichio and Amula Forest axis. Security sources report that five individuals were arrested and a locally fabricated Dane gun with five rounds of 7.62mm ammunition was seized. The Forward Operating Bases in Otukpo and Oju spearheaded the operation and later demolished the identified camps to deny militants any further access. The suspects are now in military custody for preliminary investigation. Security forces say they will continue to pursue other members of the criminal network operating in the area.
