Suroosh Alvi was born in Toronto in March 1969 to Pakistani-Canadian parents. He studied philosophy at McGill University and has kept his personal life largely private. In 1994, Alvi co-founded VICE as a punk magazine in Montreal. Over the years it grew into a global media network, expanding into digital platforms, video reporting, music, books and documentaries. He has produced and hosted many hard-hitting reports for VICE News and HBO, covering stories from Pakistan to the Gaza Strip. Today Alvi lives in New York and has an estimated net worth of around $400 million. His wealth reflects decades building one of the world’s most influential youth-oriented media brands.
