Anambra Chosen to Pilot Nigeria’s HIV Prevention Plan 2026–2030
Dr. Nkem Okeke, Executive Director of the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency, led a strategic advocacy visit to the National Agency for the Control of AIDS in Abuja, joined by UNAIDS officials. The meeting reinforced Anambra’s commitment to advancing Nigeria’s HIV response and marked Dr. Okeke’s formal introduction as the new head of ANSACA. He outlined plans to expand HIV awareness, prevention, and testing services across all local government areas in Anambra State. Key priorities include targeted interventions for vulnerable populations, data-driven programming, and community ownership to reduce new infections and accelerate epidemic control. During the visit, NACA formally presented the National HIV Prevention Plan (2026–2030). In recognition of the state’s readiness and strategic vision, Anambra was selected as a pilot site. This initiative under the “One Strategy” framework aims to foster stronger federal–state collaboration and deliver measurable, community-level impact.
