FG Launches Task Team to Fast-Track Smart, Bilingual and Alternative Schools

FG Launches Task Team to Fast-Track Smart, Bilingual and Alternative Schools

The federal government has set up a ministerial implementation and monitoring committee to speed up the completion and opening of smart, bilingual and alternative schools nationwide. At the inauguration in Abuja, the Minister of Education said the team will oversee finishing works, furniture installation, utility connections and the deployment of teachers. He warned that every idle school building means lost learning opportunities for Nigerian children. According to the Universal Basic Education Commission, 37 Smart Schools have been established (24 already operational) and 30 bilingual schools set up in nine states. Three boarding schools are commissioned and four more are near completion. The committee will report regularly on milestones and coordination with state governments.

It's interesting that this task team is a ministerial committee, but past initiatives often stalled despite similar promises.

Local communities could track the project's milestones online and share updates directly with the ministry for better accountability.
