COOU VC Hopeful Rejects Sacking as Distraction from Alleged Illegal Appointment

COOU VC Hopeful Rejects Sacking as Distraction from Alleged Illegal Appointment

Professor Chike Osegbue, the leading candidate for vice chancellor at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, says reports of his sack are a deliberate ploy to divert attention from the disputed appointment of Prof. Kate Omenugha. Osegbue told journalists in Awka that he never received formal dismissal papers. He argues his suspension over a postgraduate course was based on fabricated allegations, as no students were admitted when exams began. He also questioned the legality of the newly inaugurated council, saying it lacks the full membership required by university law. Court proceedings challenging Omenugha’s appointment are currently underway.

Could this alleged sacking rumor really be a deliberate distraction from the main controversy over Prof. Omenugha's appointment?

It's interesting how rumors of Osegbue's sacking emerged just as the appointment dispute gained traction among staff and students.

I'm not convinced that releasing vague denials will stop these rumors; real proof or transparency is what people are waiting for.

Stakeholders should call for a transparent review of the VC appointment process to clear doubts and refocus attention on merit.
