June 17, 2026 Devotional: Children Belong to God

Theme: Children Belong to God Memory Verse: “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.” (Psalm 127:3) Read Judges 13:6–14 Many years ago, my son fell dangerously ill. I prayed, worshipped, and asked God to heal him, but nothing changed. In frustration I asked, “Lord, why have You refused to heal my son?” God replied, “He is your son; why don’t you heal him yourself?” I remembered that he belonged to God and surrendered him back to His care. Within an hour my boy was well and playing again. Children are God’s precious gifts and we are merely caretakers. Instead of relying on our own understanding, we should ask the Lord, “How shall I order this child?” He will give specific guidance for their health, character, and destiny. Let us pray for wisdom in parenting. Surrender every decision—education, discipline, and care—to the One who truly owns our children. When we train them in God’s way, they will fulfill His purpose for their lives.

The devotional highlights God's ownership of children, but it doesn't explain why some prayers go unanswered in critical moments.

I'm not convinced that branding children solely as God's heritage fully addresses the emotional turmoil parents face during illness.

Setting aside regular prayer time and community support groups can help nurture trust when caring for sick children.
