Hebrews 12: From the Mountain of Fear to the Mountain of Joy
Hebrews 12:18–29 contrasts two mountains. The first is terrifying—fire, darkness, thunder, and a voice so awful that even Moses trembled. In contrast, Mount Zion is joyful. Believers approach the living God, angels in celebration, the church of the firstborn, and the blood of Christ that speaks life. We are warned not to reject the voice from heaven. Though God once shook the earth, He promises to shake all created things so that only the unshakable remains. Let us serve Him with gratitude, reverence, and awe, for “our God is a consuming fire.”
