I just had a baby in the UK. My husband is supportive but often exhausted after work. Childcare here is very expensive, so I asked my mum to come stay and help. He disagreed and suggested his mum should come instead. She’s older and still recovering from a recent stroke, and I worry she might not manage a newborn’s demands. I tried to explain this gently, but he felt I was disrespecting his mum. I love her dearly, yet I don’t want to overburden her or add to our stress. We’re at an impasse.
