Edo Queens Crowned 2025/26 NWFL Champions as Shaibu Applauds Their Dedication

Philip Shaibu, Director-General of the National Institute for Sports, commended Edo Queens for winning the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League title. He praised the team’s hard work, determination and the positive impact of sustained sports investment on women’s football in Nigeria. Edo Queens secured the trophy after holding defending champions Bayelsa Queens to a goalless draw in their final Super Six match in Port Harcourt. The result ensured they topped the standings and claimed their second NWFL title in three seasons, thanks to a disciplined performance throughout the decisive round. Shaibu also celebrated the Edo State Government’s support for sports development and urged the team to maintain focus ahead of their continental campaign. Edo Queens will now represent Nigeria in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League qualifiers as they pursue further success on Africa’s stage.
