Nigeria’s U-18 Men’s and Women’s Hockey Teams Win Bronze in Kenya

Nigeria’s men’s and women’s U-18 hockey teams won bronze medals at the inaugural Youth Africa Cup in Nairobi, Kenya. The women defeated Ghana 4-3 in the third-place match after earlier group-stage wins over South Africa, Uganda and Ghana. The men’s side beat Uganda 15-2 to claim bronze, having drawn 7-7 with South Africa and defeated Ghana and Uganda earlier in the competition. The tournament, held from 6 to 8 August, was Africa’s qualifying event for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup. Only the top two teams in each category qualified, but Nigeria’s double podium finish offers the young players valuable continental experience.
