Matthew Ashimolowo Urges Christians to Defend Pastor Adeboye: ‘We Will Not Remain Silent’

Matthew Ashimolowo Urges Christians to Defend Pastor Adeboye: ‘We Will Not Remain Silent’

In a recent social media post, Matthew Ashimolowo called on Christians to defend Pastor Enoch Adeboye amid online attacks. He said silence in the face of criticism becomes ingratitude and insisted believers must honour spiritual leaders who have served for decades. He warned against allowing cheap publicity seekers to turn men and women of God into social media trends. Cleric Mike Bamiloyin echoed this view, arguing that asking an 84-year-old pastor to lead protests goes against his divine mandate. Actress Julianna Olayode added that pastors are not activists; their role is to pray, intercede, and offer counsel to leaders as God directs. Mary Njoku urged African Christians to balance prayer with practical action. She noted that spiritual guidance alone cannot fix issues like poor roads, insecurity, and healthcare. These require planning, accountability, and hard work.

It seems insisting on silence equating to ingratitude could risk dismissing valid concerns among followers.

But could pushing for constant defense overlook those who need to voice genuine doubts first?

I'm not convinced that criticizing online attacks makes silence ingratitude; sometimes calls for unity can be used to silence valid critique.
