GMC Cuts Four International PLAB 1 Centres for 2027 — Details and Next Steps
The General Medical Council has confirmed changes to PLAB 1 delivery in 2027. Dhaka, Alexandria, Accra and Chennai will no longer host the exam. The February sitting moves exclusively to UK and EU locations, while other international dates remain. These adjustments respond to a recent drop in overseas demand. Candidates affected can rebook at alternative UK or EU centres or choose a different international sitting within their English language validity period. Where needed, the GMC may extend language evidence for those unable to attend the February test abroad. If your English language proof expires before May 31, 2027, consider sitting in August or November 2026 at your preferred centre. Those whose evidence lapses between February and May 2027 should contact the GMC support team by March 19, 2027 to discuss an extension. Many foreign-trained doctors feel these changes make it harder to “japa” to the UK. Why allow so many candidates to sit expensive exams when spaces are now limited?
