Kevin Keegan Opens Up About Stage Four Cancer Battle
Former England captain and two-time Ballon d’Or winner Kevin Keegan has revealed a stage four cancer diagnosis. The disease spread beyond his abdomen after scans following a car accident led doctors to discover the tumour. During a recent appearance at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre and Opera House, Keegan received an emotional standing ovation. He shared that his specialist—a self-confessed Liverpool fan—quoted a 33% success rate for the new treatment, to which Keegan responded, “I’m still here at the moment.” Keegan enjoyed a storied playing career with Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle United. He later managed Newcastle, Fulham, England and Manchester City, earning legendary status as the mastermind behind Newcastle’s 1996 “Entertainers.” Current boss Eddie Howe even sought his counsel when taking charge in 2021.
