Why the Nigerian Army Struggles Against Bandits and Kidnappers
I’ve been wondering why armies in Iran, Russia, the USA and Ukraine are so active while ours seems idle. We’re not at war with another country, only battling bandits and kidnappers. Yet the explanation I hear is always “lack of funding.” To me that sounds like an excuse rather than the real issue. I suspect there’s a deeper lack of patriotism among both soldiers and commanders. Many seem to treat military service like an office job, worried more about their pay and families than freeing captives. If our army took real pride in its mission, it could counter insecurity even without constant government intervention. As it stands, they threaten unarmed civilians more often than they confront armed criminals. It’s time we ask: Is poor leadership or weak morale the real reason our military is ranked among the weakest in the world?
