Niger Police Rescue Four-Week-Old Baby Abducted by Fake Pastor

A four-week-old infant was recovered by the Niger State Police after a man posing as a clergyman lured a nursing mother and fled with her child. Police arrested 24-year-old Chidi Johnson, known as “Yaron Pastor,” in Abdulsalam Quarters, Minna. He confessed that 22-year-old Zainab Ibrahim hired him to procure a newborn following her alleged miscarriage. Detectives say Johnson tricked the mother into visiting an unfinished building near Mobil Roundabout on July 14, under the pretense of food and relief from a benefactor. He then escaped on a motorcycle with the baby. Officers later arrested Ibrahim in Sokoto State. The baby was rescued unharmed and reunited with the mother. Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.

How did the fraudster manage to convince a nursing mother he was a pastor without raising any red flags?

You're right, people tend to trust anyone claiming to serve God, so doubts rarely come up.

It's odd that he targeted a vulnerable mother in broad daylight yet still disguised himself convincingly as clergy.

I'm not entirely sure the police account covers every detail, maybe there's more to this story than they're letting on.

After such incidents, make sure say you confirm background checks before trusting any self-proclaimed pastor with your family matters.
