Judge Voids $6.5M Default Judgment Against Jermaine Jackson Over Service Error
A California judge has voided a $6.5 million default judgment against Jermaine Jackson in a civil suit accusing him of rape. The court ruled the plaintiff failed to properly identify and serve him under his legal name. The lawsuit was filed in December 2023 by a woman who says Jackson assaulted her at her Encino home in 1988. After notices ran in the Los Angeles Times under “Jermaine Jackson,” she obtained a default judgment in May when there was no response. Jackson challenged the award, noting he legally changed his name in 2013 to Jermaine LaJuane Jacksun and lived overseas when the notices were published. According to reports, the judge agreed that using the wrong name and publishing in Los Angeles were fatal errors. The court has now voided the $6.5 million judgment and ordered Jackson to respond to the complaint within 10 days. The underlying allegations remain part of the ongoing civil case.
