July 9, 2026 Devotional: From the City of the Dead to the Kingdom of Life

Theme: The City of the Dead Memory Verse: “And you, being dead in your sins...hath he quickened together with Him” (Colossians 2:13). Today’s reading is Ephesians 2:1–6, which reminds us that before Christ we were spiritually dead but have been raised to new life through His mercy. Imagine a vast cemetery where people once slept on tomb slabs. Spiritually, those who remain in sin live in a “city of the dead.” Jesus conquered death and offers rescue. If you’ve not yet surrendered to Him, turn to Christ now and move from death to life. As believers, our calling is to share this good news. Don’t let busyness hinder you from witnessing. Obey the Lord’s command to win souls—sometimes the blessings you seek come through your obedience. Key Point: Every Christian must reach out to those still living in the city of the dead.

I get the symbolism about being dead in sin, but maybe some of us still need concrete steps, not just grand metaphors.

Try starting each morning by reading Ephesians 2:1–6 aloud, then write one way you experienced new life this week.
