School Director Sounds Alarm Over Rising Kidnappings of Nigerian Children
Mrs Maureen Idehen-Ovabor, pharmacist and director of two private schools, has warned that the surge in kidnappings is putting innocent children at grave risk. She described the situation as alarming and heartbreaking, urging urgent action from both state and federal authorities. She noted that criminal gangs now operate with impunity, demanding ransom sums many families simply cannot afford. This trend, she says, has fostered a climate of constant fear for parents and communities, with daily headlines dominated by fresh abduction reports. Mrs Idehen-Ovabor has called on the Federal Government and Oyo State Government to set aside politics and work together on stronger, intelligence-led policing. She also urges parents to stay vigilant, improve communication with schools, and support improved security measures on campus. In her view, protecting children is a collective duty. She emphasizes that schools must remain safe havens and that Nigeria’s progress hinges on children being secure and families living without fear of abduction.
