Racist Abuse Floods Social Media After Morocco Beat Netherlands on Penalties

Dutch players Justin Kluivert, Quinten Timber and Crysencio Summerville were subjected to racist and hateful comments online after Morocco edged the Netherlands 3-2 in a penalty shootout at the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association says it will file a report with Meld Online Discriminatie. Their legal team will assess whether to bring a formal complaint before the Public Prosecution Service, which could trigger a criminal investigation. The FA noted that similar abuse followed England’s missed penalties in the 2021 European Championship final. It condemned discrimination as running counter to everything football stands for.
