Oliseh: Morocco Must Evolve Tactics to Repeat 2022 World Cup Run

Oliseh: Morocco Must Evolve Tactics to Repeat 2022 World Cup Run — 1 of 3
1 / 3

Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh warns that Morocco cannot rely on the same counter-attacking approach that carried them to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals. He believes opponents have studied their style and will adapt. Morocco opened their 2026 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Brazil, with Ismael Saibari’s neat chip giving them the lead before Vinicius Junior’s individual brilliance levelled. Oliseh says this result underscores the need for tactical innovation. Since Qatar, Morocco have changed coach, replacing Walid Regragui with Mohamed Ouahbi in March. Oliseh also cited the growing strength of other African sides, especially Senegal, as a factor Morocco must prepare for. The Atlas Lions face Scotland next, then Haiti as they aim to secure a knockout-round spot. Adaptation and fresh strategies will be vital if they hope to match their historic 2022 achievement.

Do you think Morocco will reinvent their approach or stick with counter-attacks despite Oliseh's warning?

I agree, Morocco really should broaden their game plan beyond quick breaks if they want deeper runs.

It's clear opponents have studied Morocco's success from 2022, making a repeat run much tougher if tactics stay identical.

I get opponents will prepare thoroughly, but Morocco's tactical discipline might still give them an edge.

I no see why dem go change everything just because one draw. Counter attacks still bring good results sometimes.

Morocco could blend possession drills with quick transitions in training to keep opponents guessing and preserve that lethal counter punch.
