YABATECH Students Unveil Electric Keke and AI Delivery System to Ease Lagos Gridlock

Lagos commuters are feeling the pinch as fuel hikes push transport fares skyward. Food delivery now costs nearly as much as the meal itself, and small businesses struggle with high logistics expenses. At the 2026 Global International Day of Innovation and Creativity, a team of HND Mechanical Engineering students from Yaba College of Technology showcased their solution. They converted a standard petrol tricycle into a fully electric Keke and paired it with an AI-driven delivery platform. Led by Chukwuma Chisom, the project aims to cut fuel dependency, slash operating costs, and navigate traffic congestion using smart routing algorithms. This practical, market-ready technology demonstrates how young Nigerians can address real urban challenges. With pilot rides planned in Lagos, this electric tricycle and AI system could redefine daily commutes and delivery services across major cities in Nigeria.

It's impressive they tackled fuel hike issues, but Lagos traffic jams are a complex problem that tech alone might not solve.
