PSG Victory Marred by Violence: 416 Arrested and 7 Officers Injured
Paris Saint-Germain celebrated their first Champions League title with mass gatherings across France. Thousands of fans took to the streets of Paris and other cities after the win over Arsenal. Clashes erupted in parts of central Paris and near Parc des Princes as some supporters set off fireworks, damaged property and confronted police. Authorities deployed tear gas to disperse rowdy crowds, and videos showed flares, burning motorcycles and vandalised shops. French police confirmed seven officers were hurt and six vehicles, two businesses and a bus shelter were damaged. A total of 416 arrests were made nationwide, including 280 in Paris. Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez described the violence as “absolutely unacceptable.” Despite the unrest, PSG’s victory parade will proceed in Paris near the Eiffel Tower, capped by a reception hosted by the French President. The celebrations aim to honour the club’s historic triumph, even as authorities work to prevent further disorder.
