Federal High Court Jails Ogun Woman to 45 Years for Trafficking Minor to Benin
The Federal High Court in Abeokuta has sentenced a 29-year-old woman to 45 years behind bars for trafficking a minor to Cotonou, Republic of Benin, for sexual exploitation. She was found guilty on nine counts under the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015. According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Ogun State Command, the suspect was arrested on August 18, 2024, at Adigbe, Abeokuta. She was arraigned in September 2024, and her trial before Hon. Justice A. J. Adeyemi began in March 2025. Judgment was delivered on June 5, 2026, with concurrent five-year sentences for each count. All sentences will run concurrently following her conviction on counts 1 to 8 and count 10. The court acquitted her on count 9 after hearing the case.
