Were Ancient Israelites Black Africans? Rethinking Modern Israeli Identity
What are Europeans from Poland, Romania, Ukraine and Germany doing in the Middle East calling themselves Israelis? Ancient church art in Europe often depicted Mary and Jesus as Black Africans long before modern images prevailed. In 1948, backed by the UK and the USA, European settlers arrived in Palestine. They displaced many Palestinians and confined them to a small territory surrounded by soldiers and barbed wire. The Bible itself points to African roots for the original Israelites. Job 30:30 states, “My skin is black,” and Amos 9:7 refers to the children of Ethiopia. If this happened in your village, how would you react?
