Anambra Government Demolishes Awka Brothel, Seizes Hard Drugs and Firearm; 38 Arrested
The Anambra State Government has torn down Airtight Guest House at Y-Junction, Okpuno, Awka South. The demolition came after a night raid by Agunaechemba security operatives on March 29, 2026. Suspected illegal activities at the facility prompted swift action. Officers uncovered large caches of Tramadol, Indian hemp, nitrous oxide, Rohypnol and other controlled substances. They also seized a locally made single-barrel gun. In total, 20 alleged sex workers and 18 male patrons were taken into custody. Special Adviser on Community Security Ken Emeakayi explained that the move complied with the Anambra Homeland Security Law. The law empowers authorities to take over properties used for drugs, kidnapping or other serious crimes. He advised landlords to vet tenants carefully to avoid legal repercussions. Paul Chike, the guest house manager, said he only managed the business for the owner. He claimed measures were in place to prevent prostitutes from lodging clients. Chike also maintained that the firearm was left behind by a guest. During the raid, the manager, a supervisor, the storekeeper and a bar attendant were also arrested.
