22 Countries Offer to Secure Strait of Hormuz, Deepening Iran’s Diplomatic Isolation

Two more nations have joined a joint statement condemning Iran’s partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. The addition of Australia and the United Arab Emirates brings the total to 22. They say they will coordinate efforts to ensure safe passage through this vital shipping corridor. Earlier supporters included the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Japan. President Trump praised the move, noting that allies shouldn’t rely on the United States to police the strait. Defence experts warn that naval escorts will require destroyers to protect civilian ships. Iran insists the waterway remains open to all but hostile states. The joint declaration criticises recent attacks on unarmed vessels and civilian infrastructure. Analysts warn a full blockade could remove nearly 20 percent of global oil supplies from the market.

Good point. Their fleets would expand patrol reach and send a clear deterrent message, reinforcing shipping lane security.

I suppose their inclusion could bring extra patrols, but I doubt it fills current strategic gaps.

Countries should prioritize joint naval exercises and clear rules of engagement to keep commercial shipping lanes open.
