Inside George Carlin’s Life: Comedy, Controversy and Net Worth

George Carlin was an American stand-up comedian, actor and author. He was born on May 12, 1937 and passed away on June 22, 2008. He became a TV favourite with frequent spots on The Tonight Show and even hosted the first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975. His first HBO special in 1977 kicked off a run of 14 more comedy specials. Carlin’s dark humour and sharp social commentary set him apart. His famous “Seven Dirty Words” routine led to a landmark 1978 Supreme Court case on broadcast indecency. He appeared in films like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and lent his voice to major animated features. At his death, his net worth was estimated at $10 million. He married twice and had one daughter.
