Why Does the President’s Home Region Always Dominate Insecurity Headlines?
I’ve noticed a pattern across different administrations. Under Obasanjo, OPC unrest in the South West became a national security focus. Later, Jonathan faced militancy and kidnappings in the South South and parts of the South East. During Buhari’s tenure, insurgency and banditry in the North took over the headlines. Now under Tinubu, violence in the South West is again receiving major attention. Why do incidents in the president’s home region seem more visible or widely reported? Is it media bias, political opponents amplifying events, or do these problems simply stand out more when they hit the president’s backyard? What’s your take?
