Women from Plateau and Kaduna Forge Historic Cross-Border Peace Pact
On April 10, 2026, women leaders from Riyom and Bassa LGAs in Plateau State and Kaura and Kauru LGAs in Kaduna State came together at Jonggrand Hotel in Jos to sign a landmark Cross-Border Comprehensive Peace Agreement. Organized by the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue in partnership with the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, the accord aims to end farmer-herder clashes, boundary disputes and other conflicts. The initiative followed months of training sessions, community consultations and mediated dialogues. Samuel Godongs, Senior National Expert Adviser at the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, highlighted how women bear the brunt of violence and play a critical role in resolving conflicts. Former Minister Sarah Ochekpe and Chris Agoha of the Dialogue Centre praised the women’s leadership and urged everyone to focus on practical implementation. A joint committee has been inaugurated to oversee the agreement’s rollout. Stakeholders hope this women-driven process will foster lasting cooperation and peaceful coexistence across the border communities.
