Peter Obi to Tinubu Government: Let Us Build the NDC in Peace

Peter Obi appealed to President Tinubu’s administration to refrain from interfering with the new Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC). He made the plea in Abuja while welcoming party members shortly after joining the NDC. Obi said the party aims to lift Nigerians out of poverty and give every child an equal chance to succeed, regardless of background. He reminded the government that he and other leaders contested under different parties and urged respect for democratic freedoms. He also called on the judiciary to avoid internal party litigation. “Please let there be no cases in our party,” he said. “We want to build a party, we are not lawyers.”

A better step might be drafting clear party guidelines and independent oversight to actually safeguard NDC's autonomy from government influence.
