Over 58,000 Candidates Sit 2026 NECO Entrance Exam as Girls Outnumber Boys
More than 58,000 pupils sat the 2026 National Common Entrance Examination for admission into Federal Government Colleges, down from 64,578 last year. Female candidates accounted for over 31,000 registrations, compared with about 26,000 male candidates. Officials who monitored the exam in Abuja reported that proceedings were largely hitch-free. Centres opened on schedule, candidates were orderly and well supervised, and age guidelines were strictly followed. The Minister of State for Education and the NECO Registrar expressed satisfaction with the organisation and facilities, though they noted some absenteeism in a few centres. Taraba recorded the lowest registrations with 15, while Lagos led with 13,228 candidates.
