Poor Stadium Maintenance Is Putting Nigerian Football at Risk, Expert Warns

Sports facilities expert Ebi Egbe has warned that poor maintenance is leaving many Nigerian stadiums below FIFA and CAF standards. He said even expensive stadiums and quality pitches will deteriorate without regular upkeep. Neglect can affect ball movement, bounce, player grip, shock absorption and safety. Egbe urged stadium managers, football authorities and government agencies to treat maintenance as a long-term investment. Proper care, he said, can extend the life of facilities, reduce major repair costs and keep venues ready for domestic and international matches. The warning comes amid continuing concerns that several Nigerian venues are not fit to host top-level league and international football.
